Leave Me in the Night

Don't you, please, go away from me,
The fire we sit beside gone cold.
I hate that we're what you fear and flee
In the night to save your soul.
I know the sound of you prayin' for me
To keep the whiskey off my breath.
'Cause when that bottle's all I see
I ain't lovin' you 'til death.
Wouldn't trade my spurs
For wings to fly.
Wouldn't give my saddle
To save my life.
But I would say
My last goodbyes,
To my broken
Cowboy life,
If only you
Would stay with me,
Not leave me in the night.
Might be the worth of the seeds that fall
From my old family tree.
Keeps me from walkin' free and tall,
Curses of those come before me.
So I give my best, that's all I can.
To keep the whiskey off my breath.
'Cause when that bottle's 'tween you and me,
Scares me half to death.
I would say
My last goodbyes
To my broken
Cowboy life.
If only you
Would stay with me,
Not leave me in the night.
