Lease —and— Release


It had never occurred to the long-term renter

that reflections of sunshine off misplaced appliances

with oddly shaped metal parts or boiler plates could

—with the seasons— prompt such significant changes

The spring in the step of a highlighted shelf doll

The gleeful warmth of indoor summertime harvests

The cool autumnal warnings of falling and breaking

The discontent in the wintry room with impending darkness
